The telecom new-comer Reliance Jio has extended its welcome offer now been extended till 31 March 2017. The offer has now been renamed the Jio Happy New Year Offer.
Under the welcome offer, which was scheduled to end by 31 December, customers get free unlimited voice, video calling, SMS and unlimited daily data without any payment.
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India had earlier asked Jio to end the welcome offer by 3 December and not to give the free services to new users after that date.
Addressing employees and customers, RIL Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani on Thursday said in under three months Reliance Jio has become fastest growing technology company in the world, surpassing even Facebook. “Since its birth Jio has grown faster that Facebook, Whatsapp and Skype,” Ambani said, thanking Indians.
Ambani further said that a Jio user is using 25 times more data than the average Indian broadband users and expressed his displeasure at existing service providers not helping Jio reduce call drops.
Reliance Jio already has over 50 million subscribers in just 83 days since the service went live. The company has set a target of 100 million subscribers.
While the Jio launch has seen people line up to get SIMs, there are issues with speeds and call connectivity that have cropped up since the number of subscribers went up. Since Reliance Jio is entirely a 4G LTE based network, high-speed internet is crucial to its success, but post the launch it has found it difficult to maintain this.
Announcing his support for demonetisation efforts, Ambani announced that the JioMoney app would be available for download to everyone from 5 December.
