A student from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur has bagged ₹1.5 crore per annum salary package job offer from the software giant Microsoft during the placement drive of the institute. This is touted to be the highest salary package offered to a student of IIT-Kanpur till date.

The student, who hails from Delhi, will have to shift to the company’s headquarters in Redmond in Washington to work on software design, implementation and bug fixing.

He will be receiving $136000 ( ₹94 lakh) as basic pay, in addition to $70,000 as expenditure for medical, visa charges, stock ownership options and relation. This rounds the total package off to almost ₹1.5 crore.

Elated after getting the offer, the student, who requested anonymity, broke the news first to his wing mates. “This is really exciting. Software once again has turned out to be the flavour of the placements,” he said.

Last year, four IIT-Kanpur students bagged a salary package of ₹1.5 crore from Oracle.  The students were from computer science department. Similarly a IIT-Patna student was also offered a handsome salary package of ₹1.8 crore from Google in 2014.
