Malayalam actor Malavika Mohanan who was selected to play the lead role in Majid Majidi's upcoming flick said that it didn't matter to the Iranian filmmaker whether she was a star or a newcomer.
The Mumbai-based actor who was picked by the internationally acclaimed director for his next movie based in India said she was considered after she sent her photographs to him for the look test.
She was reportedly chosen by him after top Bollywood actors like Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra and Kangana Ranaut were considered for the role.
"It happened very fast. I sent Majid my photographs and he saw the character in me. I think it didn't matter to him whether I was a star or a newcomer," Malavika said.
The movie named Beyond the Clouds will be based on brother-sister relationship like his masterpiece movie Children of Heaven.
Shahid Kapoor's step-brother Ishan Khatter will be playing the role of brother. Bengali filmmaker Goutam Ghose has also a major role in the movie.
"It feels great, I'm working with a bunch of geniuses," Malavika said. The actor has started shooting for the movie in Jaipur.
The film is not a love story; the focus is on the siblings’ bond, on human relationships in general. It will be a grown-up version of Children of Heaven, set in Mumbai. Malavika plays Tara, a poor girl from a dhobi ghat. So for the interview with Majid, Malavika went wearing some old clothes to look the part! It is a film with plenty of acting possibilities. In the story, the brother and sister get separated owing to circumstances, and they find ways to connect with each other. The film will be made for an international audience like all of Majid’s films, but he wanted the local flavour which is why it is made in HindiMalavika’s mother

Mammotty's upcoming Malayalam movie The Great Father is Malavika's next film to hit screens.
She started her career in Malayalam film industry in Pattam Pole opposite of Dulqar Salman.
"I have been doing Malayalam movies but of course I want to do Bollywood eventually, just because it reaches out to a larger audience. But I never thought I'd do a film with Majid Majidi. It is definitely something special," said Malavika
