Child of controversy Central Board of Film Certification chief Pahlaj Nihalani said that superstars, followed by millions of fans, should refrain from consuming alcohol on the silver screen.
According to The Quint report, Nihalani said putting a ticker on a corner of the screen is not enough.
“Merely putting a ticker warning at some remote corner of the screen whenever there is smoking or drinking shown, is not enough anymore,” he said.
We feel the superstars who are followed by millions and who set an example in societal behaviour must not be shown drinking or smoking on screen unless the provocation for doing so is really strongPahlaj Nihalani, CBFC chief
He also added that a film where alcohol is essential would have to go with an A certificate.
Nihalani has recently triggered a fresh controversy after demanding removal of words like “Gujarat” and “cow” from the Amartya Sen documentary The Argumentative Indian.
He has also objections with using the word “intercourse” in Jab Harry Met Sejal trailer.
Meanwhile, a Times of India report said that the CBFC may show the door to Nihalani in a meeting called on 28 June in Thiruvananthapuram.
The report, quoting sources from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, also said that names of well-known film makers like Prakash Jha, Madhur Bhandarkar and TV Producer-actor Chandraprakash Dwivedi are being considered for the post.
