Hours after the Yogi Adityanath was sworn in as chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, Bahujan Samaj Party leader Mohammed Shami was shot dead in Allahabad on late Sunday night, reportedly by two unidentified gunmen who came on a motorbike.
The incident took place in Allahabad’s Mau Aima while 60-year-old Shami was going towards his car parked outside his office, when he was fatally shot at five times. According to sources, he fell down immediately and the accused fled from the spot.
According to the latest reports, an FIR has registered against three locals reportedly linked to BJP after his family moved a complaint. Following the incident, locals and BSP activists reportedly held a protest.
It is also reported that Shami, joined BSP recently. Earlier he was in Samajwadi Party before that he was the leader of Congress. He maintained close relation with Rajiv Gandhi when he was in Congress.
BJP had won the UP elections by a huge mandate of 312 seats, while the once powerful BSP won fewer than 20 seats.
