MP Police accused of disrupting protest meetings against ‘encounter’ killing

As questions on the Bhopal killing rise from different parts of society, Bhopal police have deployed a huge number of personnel outside mosques in different parts of the state on Friday and barred members of the Muslim community from organising protest meetings.

The cops have also allegedly snatched loudspeakers from mosques in order to block any protest meetings.

A huge crowd had gathered outside Jamia Islamia Arbia Masjid in Bhopal to stage a protest on Friday called by the Jamiat Ulema-e-Madhya Pradesh, a Muslim body in the state. After the police have taken away loudspeakers, the meeting was called off.

Leaders of Muslim organisations in the state has condemned the police move, calling it a “murder of democracy”.

The Government is misusing police machinery to suppress voices of Muslims. It is crossing all the limits to terrorise Muslims and is openly oppressing them

After the police stopped them from protesting on Friday, the leaders announced that they would soon launch a state-wide protest to highlight “police’s aggression towards Muslims.”

“We also request Muslims in gather in large number in a peaceful manner”, the leaders said.

The Police turned it into a hostile environment. People were very curious and wanted to discuss encounter killing. There was nothing wrong in that but police denied mosque authority from holding such convention

The alleged “jailbreak” and the subsequent killing of eight SIMI members on Monday has whipped up wide controversy across the country. Several political leaders and civil society members alleged that the ‘encounter’ was staged.

Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan has announced a judicial probe into the “encounter.”
