Noted journalist Rana Ayyub plans to print one lakh copies of her explosive book ‘Gujarat Files: Anatomy of a Cover Up” and to distribute it in schools and colleges for free.
The author who self-published the path-breaking book after all major book publishing houses in the country refused to publish it, sought the help of well-wishers to get the book published in huge numbers and help to reach it to the hands of readers.
The book has triggered a major controversy in the country since it exposed direct involvement of the then Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi and many other BJP leaders in orchestrating the infamous Gujarat riot in 2002.
After publishing the book, the former Tehelka journalist has been facing severe retaliatory measures from the ruling BJP government. Last month, Indian Embassy in Qatar alleged to have interfered to cancel a programme in which she was scheduled to speak. She was forced to cancel the programme after the embassy officials reportedly directed the organisers not to go ahead with Rana as the speaker.
The journalist in her announcement on Facebook has also said that she is looking at crowdfunding for publishing of the book. The post has received a good response since many people asked her in the comment box to come up with its translation in regional languages of the country like Gujarati, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam.
