A student, Gurmehar Kaur, daughter of Captain Mandeep Singh who was killed in the 1999 Kargil War, has said she has received threat messages including that of rape after she spoke out against the ABVP, student wing of RSS, following the violence at Delhi's Ramjas College on Wednesday. She said this in NDTV’s show We The People
"I've been getting a lot of threats on social media. When you open the profile picture that I changed, you keep seeing there are people threatening me and calling me an anti-nationalist. I think it's very scary when people threaten you with violence or with rape. There is this guy called Rahul and he's given a very detailed explanation in a comment saying how he would like to rape me. That is very scary,"
Giving rape threats “in the name of nationalism” is not right, she added.
To this the National Spokesman of the saffron out fit said Wherever we see that the integrity of our country is at stake, ABVP will protest”
Her comments have triggered lot of reaction on the social media. Delhi Chief Minister Aravind Kejriwal tweeted saying this reflected the mindset of BJP.
ABVP students had attacked students at Ramjas College for inviting Jawaharlal Nehru University student Umar Khalid.
In the Facebook post hours after the clashes went viral Gurmehar Kaur .said: "I am a student from Delhi University. I am not afraid of ABVP. I am not alone. Every student of India is with me. #StudentsAgainstABVP".
