Tension rose in the area after the incident and provincial armed constabulary (PAC) personnel have been deployed in the region.
The incident took place at Chachrai village in Jehangirabad block of Bulandshahr, which has a population of 2,000 with Hindus and Muslims in equal number.
It was around 9.30pm when a procession of men with tilaks on their foreheads passed through the area beating on drums celebrating BJP’s win. A few of them stood in front of the gate of the mosque and then began hoisting the flag on the roof of the mosque. Some of us objected to this, which led to an altercationMohsin Ahmad, a villager
The villagers said the group escaped when police arrived on the spot. The village and premises are still under fear.
When the police arrived, the men left the place but not before warning us that they would come armed with swords the next time. Shyam Vir Singh, SHO of Jehangirabad police station, said that they have received the complaint and police have been deployed around the mosque.
“No one will be allowed to disturb the peace in the region. We are investigating the matter."

The party's district chief, Himanshu Mittal, said, "This is the handiwork of anti-social elements. BJP has nothing to do with this matter."
