Couple felt it too romantic when the guy publicly proposed the girl at a movie theatre, restaurant or even the on the busiest roads blocking traffic and getting applauded by the public. Though it is a common trend in the West, but not all societies of the traditional Indian culture can digest such a public display of love.

A similar incident happened to a couple from Bhiwandi in Maharashtra, when the video of the guy hugging the girl after the girl accepted the proposal went viral. In the video, the boy is seen proposing the girl in the middle of a busy road in Thane as the locals looked in bewilderment while even some cheered for the young couple.

However, the local Muslim community leaders including National Lokhind Party and Raza Academy were angered by the public display of love and all the hugging that happened on 11 March and threatened to take strict action against the couple.

The leaders claim that the both the boy and girl being Muslims should not indulge themselves in such acts as it goes against the tenets of the religion. One of the organisation also decided to punish the couple by making them do squat in the public. The girl’s family was upset by the outrageous reaction of the society and they claim that if the threats and harassments continue against her, the girl might suicide, reported Times of India.

The family has also filed a harassment case with the Thane police and the authorities have promised to nab the people who threaten to harm or harass the couple. The police has also promised to nab the person who uploaded the video online.

The boy trying to pacify the outraged community uploaded an apology video, asking for forgiveness as the mistake was on his part. The boy in the video also agrees that he would never repeat it again and if does, he would happily accept any punishment given to him by the community he had upset.

In one of the videos, he is heard saying that they both were to get engaged on March 11 and that their families were aware of their relationship. “I accept my mistake and will never repeat such a thing again. Because of my mistake, do not trouble my friends, sister, mother and other people,” the boy is heard saying in the video.

Out of security reasons, the couple have left the city temporarily.
