In a repeated grievance which highlights the flaws in Uttar Pradesh’s statutory system, a raper survivor who was also attacked by acid who was also visited by CM Yogi Adityanath a few months back at the hospital where she was taking treatment was acid attacked again on Saturday at Aliganj of Lucknow.
The 35 year old woman was out of her hostel between 8 pm and 9 pm to collect some water, according to media reports. Despite tight security the attackers threw acid at her, injuring the right side of her face.
The Dalit victim was attacked by the same group of suspects, marking the fourth such attack on her. The woman who works at a Lucknow cafe run by acid survivors was attacked in January by two men, who poured acid down her throat when she was on a train from Rae Bareli to Lucknow.
The chief minister had earlier given a cheque of Rs 1 lakh as compensation to the victim's husband.
She was gang-raped earlier in 2008 and a case was registered in this regard in Unchahar town of Raebareli district.
She was first acid attacked in 2011 followed by other serious attacks again in 2011, twice in 2012 and another in 2013.
The woman’s family allege that these acid attacks are carried out by the same people who gang-raped their daughter.
