In another tragic incident to struck during the time of Amarnath Yatra, 16 Amarnath pilgrims were feared to have been killed and 35 were injured as the vehicle carrying them fell into a gorge on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in Ramban district on Sunday.
The 40-day Amarnath yatra started on June 29 from the twin routes of Pahalgam in Anantnag district and Baltal in Ganderbal district. It is scheduled to culminate on August 7, coinciding with the festival of Raksha Bandhan.
More than two lakh yatris have paid obeisance at the cave shrine so far.
According to senior police official the bus carrying the pilgrims skidded off the road, turned turtle and rolled down into the nullah at Nachlana belt of Ramban late this afternoon.
It was a week ago that seven people were killed and fifteen were injured when terrorists opened fire at a bus carrying pilgrims from Baltal to Mir Bazar.
