In a heartbreaking incident for a minor girl aged 13 years, doctors explain her family that she was not obese due to an illness but was 27 weeks pregnant.

The earth shattered for the 13 year old who went mum and did not open up about any sexual assault yet. The girl and her family realised she was pregnant after the doctors scanned her for what the kin thought was a thyroid disorder that made the girl obese.

The doctor prescribed for an ultrasound scan, which showed images of a develping 27 week old foetus, which was beyond the limit of abortion under the Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) Act, reports Times Of India.

"The girl, studying in the sixth or seventh standard, was clueless that she was carrying a baby. Her mother asked if she can undergo an abortion. Since she can't as per the law, we plan to approach the Supreme Court on Monday," said Dr Nikhil Datar, gynecologist. The doctor has helped nine women fight the abortion time limit at Supreme Court; this will be his first case where a minor is involved.

She has not told us who is responsible for the sexual assault or where it occurred. The incident occurred at least seven months ago

The Child Welfare Committee has been alerted as the girl is a minor.

The apex court on July 3 allowed the abortion plea of Kolkata-based 26-week pregnant lady on the basis of the medical report which said that the child, even if born alive, might not survive for a long time as the baby would have to go through multiple surgeries due to congenital disorder.
