As part of Swachh Bharat campaign, an urban govt body belonging to Jharkhand’s Jamshedpur has promised to give away smartphones to the winner of the best selfie clicked alongside a dustbin. The Mango Notified Area Committee (MNAC), clarified that the latest move was to encourage locals and youth to use dustbins to throw away the waste rather than dumping on roadside or anywhere.
A committee has been formulated to pick the winners of the lucky draw, which will be taken on the day of Gandhi Jayanti. Three winners will be gifted with smartphones. The first 50 selfies to be sent will receive certificates from the govt as part of their personal efforts to keep the city clean, reports Hindustan Times.
To participate in the selfie competition, participants are required to submit their dustbin selfies to the committee office or share it on the MNAC’s Facebook page and the last date to participate in the competition being 30 September.
MNAC special officer, Sanjay Kumar said since people belonging to all age groups were obsessed with taking selfies, he thought incorporating the idea into keeping the city clean and tidy which would encourage people to maintain cleanliness in the pretext of winning smartphones.
This is not the first instance, as the drinking water and sanitation department, a few months back had asked govt school teachers to send in selfies with the background of their toilets at home. The dept claim that it was only to ensure that teachers of Jharkhand used toilets at home.
