Two militants and two army men were killed and four soldiers injured in a shootout at Hajin area of north Kashmir's Bandipora district on Wednesday.
The militants opened fire on a joint party of army and SOG of Jammu and Kashmir police laying siege to Rakh (Paribal) area of Hajin, sources said triggering a gunfight.
Sources said that two forces personnel sustained injuries in the initial firing of militants who later on succumbed to their injuries. As per sources the forces later took positions and retaliated the fire killing two militants. Army also confirmed the killing of two militants.
A police officer said that army's 13 RR and SOG late Tuesday night launched cordon-and-search at Rakh-e- Hajin village following inputs about the presence of some Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants.
"As such the joint team of forces intensified the searches on wee hours, the hiding militants opened fire triggering off a gunfight between the two sides", he said.
He said that six soldiers also sustained serious bullet wounds and have been immediately evacuated to military hospital for treatment.
