‘Voting machines tampered with;’ Mayawati calls for fresh polling by ballot papers

Responding to the trends of assembly election results that shows a sweeping victory to BJP in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, BSP chief Mayawati said the outcome is “shocking” and alleged that the electronic voting machines were tampered with to create result in favour of the saffron party. She also called for a fresh polling through ballot papers.

She said her suspicion is confirmed by the fact that BJP has won even in Muslim majority seats.

“The BJP has won even in Muslim areas... Voting machines were tampered with... It’s a shocking result in UP,” Mayawati said.

I openly challenge Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah to write the Election Commission and ask for a review of the voting process and machines

As per the latest trends, the BJP is leading in 315 of the state’s 403 seats, leaving the Samajwadi Party-Congress alliance way behind at 62 seats. The Bahujan Samaj Party, once a dominant power, faces decimation with 20 seats and others got 6.

Either the EVMs did not accept votes other than BJP, or the votes of other parties have gone to BJP in the EVMs

Addressing media, she also requested the Election Commission to suspend the Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand assembly election results and get a foreign investigative team to probe the voting machines.

This could be BSP’s worst ever performance since the 1990s.

The former UP chief minister said her party has lodged a complaint with the Election Commission.
