Visaaranai director Vettrimaran to make a movie on Jallikkattu. The critically acclaimed actor acquired rights of CS Chellappa’s Vaadivasal, a novel about Jallikattu.
The Sahitya Academy award winner CS Chellappa wrote the novel Vaadivasal in 1958 based on Jallikattu. The novel is one of the authentic fictional work about Jallikattu, the traditional bull taming sport conducted in Tamil Nadu for many centuries.
The director of Aadukalam, however, has not responded to the news. He is currently working on his directorial venture Vada Chennai. The movie, with Dhanush in the lead, will hit the screens soon.
According to the reports, Vada Chennai is planned as a trilogy and the director is now wielding the megaphone for the first instalment.
Earlier, Vetrimaran has raised his voice in support of the bull taming sport and said expressed his solidarity for the ongoing protests to lift the ban on it. Hence, film critics say the movie will be to create more awareness across the globe about the importance of the ancient sport event.
However, this is not the first time the young director obtaining rights of a novel. The first half of his ‘Visaranai’ was adapted from the novel ‘Lock Up’ written by Chandrakumar about his experiences in prison.
Vetrimaran has also acquired the rights of another novel 'Shoes of the Dead' written by Kota Neelima which tells the stories of farmers and their struggles.
