Attack on actor a revealing moment for Prithviraj, vows not to mouth vilifying dialogues against women

Sometimes even a tragic incident can be a revealing moment. The brutal attack on the actor in Kochi is turning out to be like that at least for one Malayalam star. Prithviraj Sukumaran who was shaken by the attack on his colleague has now resolved not to be part of any misogynistic films any more.

In a Facebook post he apologised for being a part of misogynistic movies and also promised never to act in one in the future. He also vowed that he wont mouth anti women dialogues in his future films.

And to those voices I apologise..for at an age and time when I wasn’t wise enough..I have been part of films that celebrated misogyny..I have mouthed lines that vilified regard for your self respect and I have taken a bow to the claps that ensued. NEVER AGAIN..never again will I let disrespect for women be celebrated in my movies!

Titling his post ‘Courage’, he called the actor’s decision to stand firm on her opinion a “gutsy spunk”. He has asked everyone to stand up and applaud for her.

He says that despite knowing that her life would be under constant scrutiny, she chose to step out and work, setting an example to many and ‘light a torch that will show a path for many to follow’.

In a Facebook post dated 19 February, the actor had mentioned that the actor who was assaulted will not be returning in front of a camera anytime soon and she has pulled out of the movie in which she was supposed to be pairing up with him.

“I was supposed to start work with her in a week, and she told me that she'd like not to come back in front of the camera so soon..and so is pulling out of the film. I know this girl..I know how brave she is...if it's affected her enough to make her stay away from what she loves the most,” reads the post.

The 30-year-old popular actor of Mollywood, who was returning to Kochi after a shoot in Thrissur, was abducted by the seven-member gang and assaulted for nearly two hours in her car where they also took photographs of her. Prime accused Pulsar Suni and his accomplice, Vijeesh were arrested by the police on Thursday, while the duo reached an Ernakulam court to surrender before the magistrate, after days of evading arrest.
