Mohanlal’s ‘Odiyan’ is touted to be the most expensive film to come in Mollywood

Malayalam actor Mohanlal has turned quite ambitious these days. He is on a spree to set new records and the achievements he had made in an year are somewhat considered to be envious for an actor of his stature.

In an yet another shocker, the two-time National Award winning actor from Malayalam is going to be part of a fantasy movie that is made on a whopping budget higher than 'Pulimurugan' and would be the most expensive film to be made in Malayalam so far. The movie has titled 'Odiyan' and as the name suggests the film is too rooted in the mythical concepts of the folklore of Valluvanadu, the regions of Palakkadu and Malappuram.

As the makers of the filmmaker claim, 'Odiyan' is a high challenging film that would bring out yet another bewitching performance from Mohanlal.

It is also touted that a super actor from Bollywood will share the screen space with the superstar of Malayalam. However, specualtions were rife that Amitabh Bachchan will play a pivotal role in the movie. The two had previously acted together in two movies- Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag in Hindi and Kandahar in Malayalam.

Antony Perumbavoor's Aashirvad Films will produce the movie and will be directed by ad-maker VA Sreekumar Menon. Menon had earlier announced his dream project of turning the eponymous novel "Randamoozham" written by MT Vasudevan Nair to a film.

The film has set the ambitions of an average Malayalee viewer billowing as the film has been made on Rs 600 crore budget. Meanwhile, as per the sources, 'Odiyan' will be made before Randamoozham. Noted journalist and national award winning script writer K Harikrishnan is writing the movie. Manju Warrier will play the lady lead opposite to Mohanlal and Prakash Raj, the actor who has given equally charming performance to Mohanlal in many South Indian movies, will make the character cast quite interesting and attractive.

Sabu Cyril will do the production design and Peter Hein, who has become quite popular after 'Pulimurugan' stunts, will don the action department. Shaji (Pulimurugan) will crank the camera and Sreekar Prasad will edit the movie.

Music will by M Jayachandran and Rafeeq Ahmed, Lakshmi Sreekumar will write the lyrics. Satheesh is the sound designer and Gokul Das will look after the art department.

With a story from the past and that too from the black magic background, 'Odiyan' has something great to offer in the VFX and for that the makers have earmarked a high amount for it.

The shooting of the movie will start rolling on 25 May and in the locations of Palakkad, Tazrak, Udumalpettu, Pollachi, Banaras and Hyderabad.

Odi Vidya is a mythic cult that is quite popular among the Valluvanadan regions of Kerala. Apart from certain mention of it in the popular literature, Malayalam cinema has not explored it much with a concerned importance. K Harikrishnan, writer, has high hopes about the movie since it tells a fifty-year-old history of a region

He says that the movie would be a visual treat with love, myth, and revenge are inosculated into fantasy. Many films had come in the past dealing fantasy but Harikrishnan says this would be different as it tells the topic on a much larger canvas.
