Noted Malayalam film-maker I.V Sasi died on Tuesday morning aged 70. He was undergoing treatement in Chennai. The body has been kept in Surya Hospital in Chennai.
Sasi in his three-decade-old career has has changed the idea of film-making. The celebrated filmmaker has directed more than 150 films and was once the superstar among the directors. Sasi has played major role in establishing Mammootty as a lead actor with blockbuster movies.
He was born in Kozhikode and entered the filmworld after earning a diploma from the Madras School of Arts. In 1982, his film Aroodam earned the National Film Award for the Best Film on National Integration. He was adjudged the Best director twice by the Kerala State Film Awards.
Sasi is best known for his movies Devasuram, Mrigaya, Adiyozhukkukal among others.
He was married to Malayalam actress Seema, whom he directed in the cult movie Avalude Raavukkal. The couple have two children.
His wife Seema informed the media of his demise.
