In yet another instance of growing atrocities against marginalised sections in the country, A Dalit family in Kozhikode district of Kerala was brutally assaulted by a group of people, accusing them of a theft. The victims were abused and mercilessly thrashed using wooden rods at their small one-room house. The entire family has been hospitalised, with a seven-year-old school going boy in it is still under serious observation of doctors, after he was severely injured by getting beaten on his secret parts. The family alleges that the police have suggested them to make compromise with the perpetrators and refused to take case.

“They thrashed him on his secret parts. We can hear them screaming ‘let the children of ‘Cherumans’ ( a derogatory term used while name calling Dalits in Kerala) not grow up.’ Now doctors say that there is blood in the urine of my son,” Mridul, the day-labourer who victimised for an unknown case to him told SouthLive

The shocking incident happened in Chelannoor, Kozhikode, last Thursday. While Mridul was coming back to his house after job in the evening, the accused group, who were identified as the Congress party workers in the area started a brawl with him for not giving way for their vehicles.

They were accusing me in a theft case with out any base Earlier, they had also spreading canards in the area saying that “cherumans” were behind the theft

They were telling that we are becoming irritant for them for reasons unknown. They beat me and my wife who was standing beside me with our one and half-year-old boy Adithyan in her hands. They not even spared my seven-year-old boy Abhin Krishna.

Notably, the family did not dare to complain to the police about the incident fearing black lash . They have not filed the complaint in the case. The family informed me about the incident after their child had some urinary problems due to the attack.
