The Madras High Court on Tuesday morning witnessed a rare crowd, followed by a chaos after Tamil actor came before the court to represent his version of the story to the Madurai bench in response to a petition filed by an elderly couple claiming him to be their estranged biological son. The actor had come in the company of his mother, Vijayalakshmi, took extra efforts to reach the judge since the public and media have made the situation a total chaos in pursuit to get a glimpse of the actor.
The judge issued orders to carry out verification of identification marks on Dhanush’s body to see if they match the claims of the aged couple, R Kathiresan and his wife K Meenakshi, who has alleged that they were the biological parents of the actor. The process of verifying Dhanush’s birthmarks was carried out by the Dean of Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai and his team at the Registrar (Judicial) G. Ilangovan’s chamber.
The judge adjourned the case to Thursday for further arguments once after the results of the doctor's verification.
The court had summoned the actor after the couple in the suit claimed that the actor had identification marks including a mole on his right collarbone and a scar on the right forearm as mentioned in the school Transfer Certificate (T.C) of their son. The couple had sought a monthly maintenance of Rs 65,000 from Dhanush. The judge, however, denied the actor's plea with the court to exempt his client from personal appearance.
The actor had expressed surprise over the High Court registry insisting upon him to identify himself as K Kalichelvan alias Danush K Raja, son of R. Kathiresan in the cause title (titled of the proceedings in a court of law) of his quash petition.
The 33-year-old actor said that he was born and brought up in Chennai though it was the couple’s case that their son was born and brought up in Madurai till 2002 before moving to Chennai to pursue a career in acting. Stating that he was born to R. Krishnamoorthy and K. Vijayalakshmi in Chennai on July 28, 1983, and got christened as R.K. Vengadesha Prabhu, he said that his father as well as he had changed their names.
He added that his father changed his name from R. Krishnamoorthy to R. Kasthoory Raja. He from R.K. Vengadesha Prabhu to K. Dhanush. He even produced government gazette notifications to substantiate his claim. Further, relying upon a copy of a ration card issued to his family in 2005, he pointed out it contains the names of his parents, brothers, sisters and himself.
