The deafening silence at Marine Drive, the walk-way adjacent to the Kochi Lake, here has turned volatile since the sun has given a slight slant towards the West. The air filled with beats of folk dance, music and street play as the people started to pour.
People holding placards, posters and paintings protesting against the moral policing started to pour in since after noon. By around 4 in the evening, the activists of Kiss of Love (KoL) started hugging and kissing each other marking their second stint of protest against moral policing. This was by the way largest to take place in the place since after the massive KoL a couple of years ago.
Though the City Police have not given permission for the protest, a large consignment of police stood guard at the venue. With onlookers hustling each other for a good vantage, the protest went without any untoward incident.
Meanwhile, Thiruvananthapuram too saw a similar kind of protest at Kanakakkunnu in the city. Kozhikode too saw people coming with solidarity under the banner of KoL.
Earlier in the morning, the Democratic Youth Front of India (DYFI) and other left organisation have staged protest against Shiv Sena's act of moral policing at the Marine Drive on Wednesday. They staged a 'love sit-in'at the venue.
KSU too staged a 'cane' protest to mock the Shiva Sena's act last day.
BJP, meanwhile, staged double protest against Shiv Sena and the KoL.
This was the second time that the Sena activists had attacked couples in the garb of moral policing. During the first Kiss of Love, the sena members attacked the participants of the movement gathered together in protest against the moral policing at Kozhikode hotel.
The Facebook page of the Kiss of Love Campaign condemned the police for being mute spectators to the incident. In the street play they enacted, the Kerala Police have come under sever strict criticism.
On Wednesday, a march conducted by the Shiv Sena members to Marine Drive turned violent as the members began to chase away couples, with canes in their hand. All this, while the police did little to prevent Shiv Sena members from taking law into their hands.
The incident saw the Kiss of Love that had been in a sleep since after two of its main faces Rahul Pasupalan and Reshmi were arrested for charges of child trafficking.
Soon after the incident went viral, police arrested six Shiv Sena workers - T.R. Devan, K.Y. Kunjumon, K.U. Ratheesh, A.V. Vineesh, T.R. Lenin and K.K. Biju - on the charges of assault and preventing the police from discharging their duties.
