Gravely accused for their involvement in hushing up the rape of a minor by a fellow priest, priest and two nuns surrenders before the Peravur police on Friday morning. Former chairman of the Wayanad Child Welfare Committee (CWC) Fr Thomas Joseph Therakam, CWC member Sister Betty Jose and Orphanage head Sister Ophelia .The accused all were running since the arrest of a fellow Catholic priest Fr Robin accused of raping a 15-year-old girl, who is a plus one student in the school run by the priest's diocese.
They have appeared on Monday early morning before the Investigating Officer Sunilkumar.

Fr Therakam was the first among the three to reach before the office in the morning at 6.15 followed by sister Betty and sister Ophelia.
The High Court had directed all the four accused in the case namely Father Thomas Therakam, Sister Ophelia, Sister Betty and Thangamma to surrender before the probe authorities on Tuesday. A helper, Thangamma, was also an accused who went absconding . The court also directed that they should be granted bail on the same day of their surrender.
In a case that had shaken the conscience of Kerala recently, a priest, Robin alias Mathew Vadakkencheril, of the local church in Kottiyoor raped a minor girl, who came to his church for to take service and impregnated her. She later gave birth to a healthy baby in a private hospital in Kuthuparamba. The child was taken to an orphanage in Vythiri, Wayanad.
