A schoolboy boy from Kerala’s Ernakulam has fathered a child at his age of 12. The 16-year-old mother gave birth to a baby girl a few months ago at a hospital in Ernakulam and Genetic profiling of both the baby and the father was carried out earlier this week.

The 12-year-old may be the youngest dad in the country with investigators confirming the paternity.

The identity of the minor parents and the baby, are being withheld in accordance with the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, The Hindu reported.

Professor Dr. P.K. Jabbar who is the Head of the Endocrinology Department of the Medical College Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, the boy could have a medical condition called “precocious puberty,” in which a child attains puberty at a much earlier age reports The Hindu

“It was not an unusual medical condition but no incident of a boy becoming a father at the age of 12 had come to notice so far,” Dr. Jabbar was quoted as saying .

The experts generated DNA profiles from the blood samples. The baby was just 18 days old at the time of the scientific analysis.

“In the absence of identical twins, it was found that the alleged father was the biological father of the child” whose blood samples were examined, sources were quoted saying.

Cops have registered a case against the boy under the POCSO Act.
