The director of students’ service at the University of Kerala has alleged that she was physically and mentally assaulted by the workers of the Students Federation of India(SFI).
According to Dr T Vijayalakshmi SFI workers led by syndicate member and DYFI leader A A Raheem approached the officer to ‘illegally’ get hold of seven lakh rupees, which was the last installment of the fund for the university youth festival. She alleges that Since when she insisted that it will not be possible to do anything aginst the statute, the SFI workers started abusing and assaulting her. The woman officer also alleged that the leaders of the student’s wing of ruling CPI (M) threatened to kill her if she does not release the fund .
“It was the darkest three hours in my life and I will never forget it till my death,” Vijayalaskmi told SouthLive.
The varsity officer Dr T Vijayalaskmi on Monday filed a complaint with the Director General of Kerala Police about the incident which allegedly took place on 30 March.
They were nearly a hundred numbers and did not even allow me to go to the toilet. I thought I would go unconscious, that was the kind of torture. Some of there were shouting at me, others pricked with pens, pulled my hair and showered me with obscene wordsDr. Vijayalakshmi, Director of students services, Kerala University
Even the security officers who came to rescue her were threatened, she told SouthLive.
When a former MLA V Shivankutty reached the spot, the SFI leaders told him that it was an immoral trafficking indent, Vijayalaskhmi alleges.
For the entire three hours, they were abusing me with the words that I cannot disclose in public. How can these students use such a language looking at the face of a woman?Dr. Vijayalakshmi, Director of students services, Kerala University
“I was also part of protests during my college days, but never abused someone like this,” she adds.
“I have always insisted that the fund transactions must be done as per rules. This irked the SFI and it is the sole reason behind these assaults,” Vijayalakshimi adds.
The row related to the youth festival started when the Vice Chancellor asked SFI, who runs the students union, to submit the bills of already sanctioned 22 lakhs. The VC said that he will not be releasing the balance amount until he gets the receipts, which the union failed to furnish. The SFI had gheraoed the VC and pro-VC back then.
When SFI prepared the schedule of the inauguration, surpassing the protocol, they have listed the VC name as the second person for felicitation, after which the VC himself kept away from the function.
Vijayalakshimi had expressed her disapproval on avoiding the Vice-Chancellor P K Radhakrishnan from the inauguration of the university youth festival. She says, after this incident, the SFI leaders have created a plot that the VC and the woman officer are in an illicit relation.
Besides DGP, Vijayalakshmi has also complained to the Chief Minister and Women’s Commission. “I will continue my fight till justice prevails,” she adds.
P K Radhakrishnan last week sought police protection citing life threat from the SFI, but since the government turned down his request, the VC decided to go on leave.
