The fight against the imposition of Hindi in Tamil Nadu is getting momentum after the National Highway Authority of India, changed its sign boards from Tamil to Hindi. Various Dravidian parties have already warned the centre government against sabotaging three language principle committed after the anti Hindi protest in the 60s.
Twitter has now become another platform for the Tamilians to vent their anger against ‘the attempt to undermine’ Tamil language
The storm has gone beyond the south Indian state as people from other areas who speak Bhojpuri, Maithili, Magadhi, and Awadhi has also joined the fight.
And the anger goes beyond Tamil Nadu.
Twitter witnessed the wave of anger since Friday when the working president of the DMK, MK Stalin, accused the BJP of disrespecting the Tamils and of trying to bring in a “Hindi hegemony through the backdoor” into Tamil Nadu. Other Tamil parties such as the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) and Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) even threatened an agitation if such changes on signposts continued.
