Widely expected since the start of the counting, IUML leader PK Kunhalikutty has emerged victorious in Malappuram Lok Sabha by poll. The thumping victory of Kunhalikutty was secured with a leade of over 1.7 lakh votes. Meanwhile, CPM has improved their stand slighlty from the previous election with MB Faisal scoring over 3 lakh votes.
Though the victory was massive, Kunhalikutty has failed to meet the expectation of crossing over E Ahamad's record victory margin of 1,94,739. Meanwhile, BJP has faced the maximum loss with party only gaining 957 votes this time. They had at the time of campaign bluffed of improving their vote share largely.

The by poll has come as a result of the sad demise of former union minister and Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) leader E Ahamed. The campaign had gone to a crescendo with all the three fronts unleashing a tight campaign that led on topics from development to beef.
UDF has taken the by poll far more seriously in maintaining the seat, while the ruling LDF is hoping for an upset win in the constituency. BJP, however, aims to increase their vote share in consolidating the Hindu votes of the constituency.
