In a move that contrary to their earlier stand taken two-weeks ago, an emergency meeting of AMMA, the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes, said on Tuesday after the arrest of Actor Dileep in the actress abduction case that they are standing with the victim and expels Dileep not only from its Treasurer post but also from the preliminary membership of the organisation.
The meeting was convened at the residence of senior actor Mammotty at Panampilly Nagar in Kochi.
A press statement read out after the meeting said that the organisation was with the victim and it will extend all support to her. AMMA also condemned the statements made by a few of its members against the female actor after the incident. The organisation also praised the government and the State police for carrying out a proper investigation in the case.
The volte-face of the organisation has come in the wake after they faced heat after the arrest of the actor. However, a meeting with full quorum two weeks ago in Kochi has seen the organisation jointly fighting in the press meet to defend actor Dileep. Actor Innocent, the president, seemed innocent about the case then and said that Dileep has no connection with the case.
Soon after actor-turned politicans like Mukesh and K B Ganesh Kumar ferociously faced the media in defending the actor. Innocent, however, after the press meet turned ugly and criticism come raking up has called a press meet alone two days ago to make his stand clear in the mix-up. It turned further worse with the actor blaming the actress' "badness" that ended up in casting couch and further made solid his stand that Dileep is too innocent to do such criminal atrocities.
With the Kerala Police nailing him with maximum evidence, AMMA has to save their face and did a U-turn its earlier stand in alligning with the actress.
Kerala Film Producers Association also expelled Dileep. Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) has also expelled the actor from the primary membership of the organisation.
