Alliance for Social Justice (ASJ), a Left-Dalit-Muslim front consisting students organisations such as Students Federation of India (SFI), Students Islamic Organisation (SIO), Ambedkar Students Association (ASA) trounced RSS's Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in all central panel posts of students union elections in the University of Hyderabad. ASJ won all the central panel posts including President, Vice President, General Secretary, Joint Secretary, Sports Secretary and Cultural Secretary.
A PhD scholar from Regional studies, Sreerag Poickadan, won president post defeating K. Palsaniya of ABVP-OBCA alliance and Anju Rao of NSUI.
Other newly elected office bearers of HCU students'union are Arif Ahammed (General Secretary), Muhammed Ashique NP (Joint Secretary) Lolam Sravan Kumar (Sports Secretary) and Gundeti Abhishek (Cultural Secretary).
The whole central panel has three Dalits, two Muslims and an Adivasi.
The candidature of vice president-elect, Lunavath Naresh of ASJ, was cancelled because of low attendance. However, the election commission has not announced the results officially after students protested against the disqualification of the vice president-elect.

The voter turnout for this year’s election was 75 per cent. Since 2009, ABVP hasn’t won president post.
