Kerala: School girl jumps from building due to harassment; dies

A 15 year old girl jumps from her school building at Kollam district in Kerala after the girl felt ashamed over an alleged harassment on Friday and succumbed to the injuries at a private hospital on Monday.

The girl, a student of class 10 of ICSE school Trinity Lyceum Kundara, Kollam jumped after she was scolded by her teacher from supporting her younger sibling.

She ended in an argument with the teachers after her younger sibling was made to sit with boys as a punishment for talking in the class.

The girl's parents met the school authorities and threatened to file a complaint against the teachers, but they assured them that this would not happen again.

The teachers punished the girls again after they entered into a verbal spat with their friends. Relative’s of the girl also claim that the teachers threatened the girl that they would not allow the girl to set for board exam.

The girl’s father added in the complaint that his daughter was mentally harassed by the teachers which led to her suicide.

Taking reference of the complaint filed, police have taken into custody two teachers on charges of abetment of suicide.
