Israel's police have started an investigation into a video of an Israeli police officer accosting a Palestinian in East Jerusalem, in what Israel's police minister called a "shameful" incident.
In the video, published by Israel Radio, an officer is seen beating a Palestinian truck driver, head-butting him and slapping him around in Wadi Joz, an Arab area in occupied East Jerusalem.
From the exchange heard in the video, it is apparent that the argument began over how the driver had parked his vehicle.
In response, the police condemned the incident, saying it views such behavior as severe and as unbefitting a police officer. "After receiving the video, the officer was put on immediate leave and will be called in for a hearing regarding his future in the police." They also said the video was sent to the police investigation unit.
The video, which was recorded by a Palestinian resident of East Jerusalem, has been passed to the police investigation unit.
Apparently filmed on a dashcam of another vehicle, it shows the officer remonstrating with the lorry driver.
The Jerusalem Post newspaper said the incident reportedly arose over an issue with the parking of the lorry.
