Donald Trump was accused of sexism at many occasions and majority of them are well documented and much discussed. In a latest incident, the US President praised French First Lady Brigitte Macron for being in “such good shape” during his first official visit to Paris.
The US president made the comment during his first state visit to France and was posted on the French government’s Facebook page.
“You’re in such good shape. She's in such good physical shape. Beautiful,” Trump told the French President's wife on Thursday, who was standing next to US First Lady Melania Trump.
He then turned to the president of France, Emmanuel Macron, and said, “She’s in such good physical shape.”
“Beautiful,” Trump said, turning to the first lady of France. She appeared to grab Trump’s wife, Melania, by the arm and take a step backward. Melina Trump stood next to her, smiling, New York Times reported.
Earlier in the day, at the welcome ceremony in Paris, Trump and Brigitte Macron extended their hands to one another, fumbling to make contact for a handshake, before they embraced for a traditional kiss on the cheek. Afterward, they rejoined hands while they continued to talk, reports CNN.
However, social media immediately reacted with many users denouncing Trump's comments as sexist.
And here comes the apology.
The White House declined to comment on the exchange.
On Thursday night, the couples dined together at a gourmet Eiffel Tower restaurant.
