A teenage Pakistani couple who tried to elope were electrocuted to death as part of honour killing by the family members, who were ordered by the head of the tribal council to take the extreme step. The elders of the tribal community said the teenagers brought dishonour to the family and the community.
The 15 year old girl ran away with the 17 year old lover last month, police said.
The girl was murdered first and buried, followed by the boy, police added. Police have arrested the father of the girl and the boy and the respective uncles who forced the murder.
According to reports, more than 500 women die every year in Pakistan due to honour killing. Usually such tribal meetings, also called as Jirgas are convened conservative rural areas, to settle local disputes especially between poor families and here the two families decided to get the two teenagers married but the Jigra was against the decision and pressed on the implementation of the barbaric murder.
Jigras are highly influential tribal councils and puts tremendous pressure on the backward society of Pakistan.
